Crystal Report Specialist

The Crystal Report Specialist will fulfill a variety of roles at Sparta Systems. As part of an
implementation team, the primary function of this position will be to manage and lead report
developmental efforts in support of TrackWise tracking software implementations at customer sites.
The position will require analyzing customer report requirements and the design, development, testing
and deployment of custom report templates within the TrackWise solution.

The Crystal Report Specialist will assist in providing subject matter expertise to peers in support of
complex report challenges. In this role, the report specialist will help innovate reporting resolutions
which are unique to the TrackWise product and its related integration with Crystal Reports. Additional
duties will also include assisting in the maintenance and creation of reports for the TrackWise Web
Admin product, TrackWise pre-configured solution and company wide applications.

In addition to leading report implementation efforts, the Crystal Report Specialist will be fully trained
in the TrackWise product suite and may assist and/or lead on-site customer TrackWise tracking
software projects. Implementation process includes analyzing and documenting customer
requirements, installing software (TrackWise); configuring the software to implement customer
requirements; assisting with validation activities and training TrackWise administrator users and endusers.

Responsibilities of this position may also include conducting in-house TrackWise Certification courses
(e.g., Course 740 - Crystal Reports Design for TeamAccess, Course 750 - Advanced Crystal Reports
Design for TrackWise Web) as well as assistance with development of training materials and aids.

Location: Holmdel, NJ as well as off-site customer location(s).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In both on-site and off-site situations, analyze customer report requirements and gain understanding of customized TrackWise configuration. Design and develop professional, custom report templates for use within customer customized solution. Test finalized templates within the TeamAccess application to ensure proper working functionality.

  • Support company wide internal reporting needs. This will include assistance with
    maintenance, creation, testing and deployment of report templates used in internal
    applications, as well as templates included in company products.

  • When leading TrackWise project implementations, analyze customer business and functional
    requirements. This may be performed at our offices when such information is known in
    advance. However, this analysis is often performed at customer site, meeting with the users
    and proposing possible configurations via an open and interactive dialog.

  • Work with customer to evaluate and develop logical work flows, representative of business
    processes, which will be configured in TrackWise.

  • At the customer site: Install TrackWise (using automated installation scripts) relates to
    customers’ tracking needs (as detailed above), and configure TrackWise accordingly. At the
    same time, show and train the users how to use the TrackWise Administrator (configuration)
    tools.

  • Train TrackWise administrator users in the overall TrackWise configuration and reporting
    tools (so that once the initial configuration is complete, these users can implement
    configuration changes as their needs continue to evolve).

  • Train end-users, on their configured TrackWise tracking application(s).

  • Train TrackWise administrator users in the overall TrackWise configuration and reporting

  • Implement TrackWise in conjunction with 21 CFR Part 11 (Electronic Records and Electronic Signatures), Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), and related FDA regulations.

  • Conduct TrackWise Certification courses and assist with developing and/or maintaining training materials.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree (Business Administration, Industrial Engineering or Computer Science)
    preferred or commensurate experience.
  • Excellent analytical, logical, presentation and interpersonal communication skills.
  • 3+ years experience in the design and development of Crystal Reports (minimum version 8.5).
  • Proficient in using SQL and understanding relational data structures / models / relationships.
  • 2-3 years of proven experience in an analytical or business/quality systems environment.
  • Position requires 50% to 75% of out of state work at our customer sites.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of the following Crystal Reports features: Cross-tabs, Subreports, Grouping and Sorting, Summaries, Running Totals, Parameters, Graphing, Conditional Formatting, Record Selection Expert, Drill-down and Top N reporting.

  • Strong working knowledge of built-in Crystal Report functions, development of custom formulas which use If-Then-Else / Select Case / For Loop logic, Variables, Arrays and Ranges.

  • Experience using Custom Functions, SQL Expressions and Commands are a plus.

  • Experience developing Crystal Reports for an integrated solution is a plus.

  • Experience with Business Objects Crystal Reports Server (RAS) is a plus.

  • Ability to lead projects, manage multiple tasks involved in meeting deadlines and deliverables.

  • Take and active role with our client base, i.e., must be comfortable in speaking with customers,
    and being able to handle any size group meetings.

  • Ability to clearly communicate thoughts and ideas in person, over the telephone, and in written
    correspondence.

  • Experience with MS Office Suite.

  • Experience with database management system (DBMS) preferably Oracle and/or MS SQL Server.

  • Experience conducting training classes and/or development of training aids are a plus.
